Summer is almost here, and that means beachwear and poolside fun are just around the corner.
That also means it's time to get your fitness routine back in gear!
And what better than an ab workout to get you looking toned and ripped in that bathing suit? After all, a chiseled six pack is one of the hottest looks for the summer!
In order to get your abs in optimal summer shape, I've designed a killer ab workout that's sure to give you real results. This workout plan is all about circuit training and getting your metabolism in high gear!
Some Things to Consider
First, it's important to remember that diet plays a massive role in getting a toned and chiseled midsection. It's absolutely essential that you burn extra fat and calories if you want to show off all your hard work at the gym.
In addition to the basic rules of cutting down on fat, sugar, and sodium, you should also be significantly increasing your protein intake. Not only will this help support the development of lean muscle mass, but you'll also give your metabolism a boost. The Pool Ready Ab Workout
Okay, now that your diet is check and primed for six pack abs, it's time to get moving. Before I get to the exercises in this workout plan, it's important to remember that you need to work out your entire body for optimal results. Spot-training simply doesn't work when it comes to burning fat.
This pool ready ab workout is based on circuit training, which means moving between exercises at a fast rate with little rest in between. It also utilizes supersetting, which simply means alternating between sets of 2 exercises without rest in between. Both are great time-saving techniques, and both will get your metabolism in high gear!
Here's the ab workout plan. Do these 5 supersets in about 30 minutes, and you'll be on your way to a sexy, chiseled midsection just in time for summer!
- Warm-Up – Burpees (view exercise)
- Superset #1 – Pull-ups (view exercise) & Pushups (view exercise)
- Superset #2 – Dumbbell Squats (view exercise) & Crunches with Toe Touch (view exercise)
- Superset #3 – Dumbbell Lunges (view exercise) & Hanging Leg Raises (view exercise)
- Superset #4 – Oblique Side Bends (view exercise) & Ab Twists (view exercise)
- Superset #5 – Side Plank Crunches (view exercise) & Dumbbell Deadlifts (view exercise)
- Cool-Down – 5-10 Minutes of Light Cardio
Move between workouts as quickly as possible, and stay hydrated! For all exercises, do as many reps as you can until exhaustion. In most cases, that means anywhere from 10 to 25 reps (especially for the ab exercises).
I recommend doing this workout once or twice a week at most. Remember, a six pack requires hard work and dedication.
