Motivation is absolutely essential to fitness and workout success. In fact most goals, whether they’re focused on toning, building muscle, or losing weight, are never fully realized due to a loss of motivation.
It’s understandable too. With all the pressures and commitments in our lives, fitting in a solid, regular workout plan can be a challenge. On top of that, boredom can easily set in over time, and without the right strategies and tools at your disposal, a workout can start feeling like just another chore.
To help you stay at the top of your game and totally motivated, I’m offering 10 workout and weight loss motivation quotes – along with some killer tips on how to implement them! Post these quotes in your locker or on your fridge to keep you feeling energized…
10 Motivational Quotes & Tips to Get Them Right
“Energy and persistence conquer all things.” – Benjamin Franklin
This quote is a great one to start with, and it really sums things up nicely. No matter the goal you’re striving towards, energy and persistence are key factors. Persistence really comes down to your mindset and commitment – hopefully these quotes can help you with that. As for energy, you really need to do everything you can to stay energized, from improving your sleep to adopting this Diet for Increased Energy.
“Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.” – Mahatma Gandhi
When it comes to being strong, it’s really important to expand your perspective and get out of your preconceived notions. Strength is just as much mental as it is physical, and without a strong commitment and drive, you won’t see your goals through.
“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” – Jim Ryan
When we apply this quote to fitness motivation, habit really gets at the importance of having a solid routine in place. As you’ll see from the next quote, I don’t recommend doing the same exercises and workouts over and over again. But scheduling your workouts at the same time every day, or the same days every week, will help keep you motivated.
“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” – Albert Einstein
This quote applies well to workout and fitness success. Doing the same workout routine time and again is eventually going to stop producing results. In order to keep building on your successes, you need to change things up on a regular basis. Check out my Tricks to Intensify Your Workout here to get some ideas.
“In seeking happiness for others, you find it for yourself.” – Anonymous
This may strike you as unexpected in the context of fitness motivation, but this quote gets at the importance of working out with a friend. By having a regular workout buddy, you’ll be more motivated to reach your goals – not only by encouraging the other person, but also by receiving encouragement.
“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” – Mark Twain
Getting started is always the first step, but it isn’t always easy. Here’s what I recommend doing: Sit down with a pen and paper, and write down your workout goals. Then break these goals up into smaller goals that you can achieve in a few weeks. Use this as the foundation of your workout plan.
“Clear your mind of can’t.” – Samuel Johnson
No matter your goal, you need to really monitor your thoughts and make sure you’re engaging in positive self-talk as much as possible. By changing your thoughts from negative to positive, you can easily and quickly improve your motivation.
“Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.” – Lou Holtz
Getting these things straight in your head is important. So much really comes down to having the right attitude. If you can focus on shifting your mindset and engaging in positive thoughts, you’ll be much more successful. See my article, Get Motivated and Stay Motivated!
“The finish line is just the beginning of a whole new race.” – Unknown
I love this quote, because it gets at the importance of shifting your mindset from one of short-term goals to one of lifestyle changes. By focusing on long-term lifestyle changes, you’ll be more likely to implement healthy habits that can stand the test of time. Think about making changes that can last.
“The difference between a goal and a dream is a deadline.” – Steve Smith
Deadlines are important for staying motivated and seeing your fitness goals through. But I recommend breaking things up into smaller, shorter deadlines that are actually achievable. By setting smaller goals within larger ones, and by setting clear deadlines, you’ll be able to stay motivated by seeing real success unfold.
